About CLD files
The .cld file extension is primarily associated with CD/DVD label designs created by software like Nero CoverDesigner and the discontinued Canon CD-LabelPrint. These files store layout information, including text, track lists, and background images specifically formatted for disc surfaces and jewel case inserts. A secondary, distinct use involves UML class diagrams generated by the AmaterasUML plugin for Eclipse, stored in an XML-based format.
For users with label design files, the primary challenge is proprietary lock-in. Canon CD-LabelPrint, for example, is no longer supported on modern operating systems like Windows 10 or 11, making old .cld templates inaccessible without workarounds. Similarly, Nero files require the specific suite to open, which may be unnecessary bloatware for users just wanting to view a cover. These files are not natively supported by web browsers or standard image viewers.
To preserve these designs or print them on modern hardware, the best solution is converting them to PDF (Portable Document Format). This ensures the layout dimensions remain fixed for printing on adhesive labels. For digital archiving or quick previews, converting to JPG or PNG is recommended. Users with AmaterasUML .cld files often need to convert them to standard XMI or image formats for inclusion in technical documentation.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CLD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted CDL, TXT, JPG, CDW, MDL, CDR, BTW, DAT, ZIP, CTG and SFD files.
The CLD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CLD converter.
