To convert other file formats to the "Vector Graphics Design File" file type, you need software like CorelDRAW or a similar tool.
About CDR files
The .CDR file format is a proprietary vector graphics container primarily developed by Corel Corporation for its core application, CorelDRAW. These files store vector lines, shapes, text, images, and color profiles used in page layout and graphic design. Depending on the software version, a .CDR file utilizes entirely different internal structures: older files rely on the RIFF container format, while newer versions use a ZIP-compressed archive containing XML files and image assets. The main disadvantage of the .CDR format is extreme vendor lock-in. It is highly proprietary and notoriously poorly documented outside of the Corel ecosystem. Sharing a .CDR file with someone who does not pay for a CorelDRAW subscription almost guarantees they cannot open it. Even users with older versions of CorelDRAW frequently encounter compatibility errors when opening newer .CDR files. Furthermore, the format is completely unsupported by web browsers and standard operating system preview tools. To overcome these limitations, you must convert the file to a standardized format. For web use and open-source editing, convert .CDR to SVG. For high-quality printing, archiving, and document sharing across any device, convert to PDF. If you need to send the file to a designer using Adobe Illustrator, converting to EPS provides the best chance of retaining vector paths, though complex gradients and proprietary Corel effects may be flattened or lost. The CDR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CDR converter.
