About CATPRODUCT files
A .CATProduct file is a proprietary assembly document created by CATIA V5, the high-end CAD software from Dassault Systèmes. Unlike a standalone part file, this format functions as a container that defines the hierarchical structure of a 3D model, positioning and referencing external CATPart files or other sub-assemblies.
A common problem for users is that a .CATProduct file often contains no actual geometry - only links. If you try to open one without the associated CATPart files in the same directory, you will likely see an empty scene or "broken link" errors. Additionally, CATIA enforces strict version locking; a file saved in a newer release (e.g., V5-6R2022) cannot be opened in an older version, forcing users to maintain expensive subscriptions just to view data. The format is also notoriously difficult to import into other CAD tools like SolidWorks or AutoCAD without geometry errors or missing metadata.
To bypass these proprietary locks and dependency issues, we recommend converting the assembly into a neutral format. For engineering collaboration, convert to STEP (AP214 or AP242) or IGES, which consolidates the geometry into a single, universally readable file. For rapid prototyping or 3D printing, convert to STL. For documentation and archiving where editing isn't required, 3D PDF is the standard.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CATPRODUCT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted CATPART, CATDRAWING, CAT, STP, ZIP, 3DXML, PRT, STL, SLDASM, SLDPRT, PIV, STEP and EASM files.
The CATPRODUCT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CATPRODUCT converter.
