Extract text from eDrawings CAD assemblies (EASM)

.EASM files are 3D assembly models published by CAD software like SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor. Designers use them to share complex, multi-part models with clients and manufacturers for visual review. You typically open them using the free eDrawings Viewer.
Users frequently need to convert .EASM files back into editable CAD formats to modify the design. The primary disadvantage of .EASM is its design as a locked, proprietary viewing format. It strips out the mathematical feature history and native parameters of the original CAD model. Furthermore, if the file creator disabled export capabilities to protect their intellectual property, you are left with a file that can only be rotated and viewed on a screen, offering zero editing utility.
If the author explicitly enabled export rights, the best conversion targets are STL for 3D printing or STEP for generic CAD manipulation. You can also export 2D views to PDF or JPG for static documentation.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because it uses proprietary compression - often packaged internally as a ZIP container - that third-party tools cannot reliably parse. Standard online converters fail to process the 3D geometry because only the original eDrawings software has the proprietary libraries to properly read or export the data.
