The .EASM file type is an eDrawings Assembly file, a highly compressed, secure 3D format developed by Dassault Systèmes for sharing complex CAD designs. Unlike the original source files (such as SLDASM from SolidWorks), .EASM files are designed to be lightweight and "read-only," acting as digital blueprints that allow clients and stakeholders to rotate, zoom, and measure 3D models without needing expensive CAD licenses.
However, this security creates a major challenge: .EASM files often lock the geometry. Users frequently struggle to convert them back to editable formats like STEP or IGES because the file contains tessellated (mesh) data rather than precise B-Rep curves. Furthermore, unless the original author explicitly enabled the "Allow Export" permission, extracting data for 3D printing (STL) or importing into AutoCAD or Fusion 360 is restricted. The best conversion workflows involve using the eDrawings Viewer to export accessible geometry to STL for manufacturing or saving as 3D PDF and PNG for documentation and web viewing.
