About BCM files

The .bcm extension is shared by three distinct ecosystems, creating significant confusion for users. Most commonly (approx. 42%), it is a Kittenblock Project File generated by Kittenbot educational software. These are actually plain text files formatted in JSON, used to store block-based coding logic for hardware like Micro:bit or Arduino. Users often need to convert these to standard JSON or TXT to view the underlying code structure or debug logic without the proprietary IDE.

Alternatively, in enterprise environments, a .bcm file is often a Business Contact Manager backup or export from legacy versions of Microsoft Outlook (2003–2013). These files contain critical customer relationship management (CRM) data - accounts, leads, and project history. The friction here is severe: Microsoft discontinued BCM support in newer Office versions, leaving users with locked data that requires a specific legacy environment or a niche third-party extraction tool to migrate to CSV or PST.

Finally, in the VR gaming community, .bcm refers to a Boneworks Custom Map file. These are binary game assets for Boneworks created by the Unity engine. They are largely obsolete, having been superseded by the CMA format, and cannot be "converted" to images or text, only loaded into the game via mod managers.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BCM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DCM, TXT, JPG, ZIP, BDB, UPS, XLR, BCF, TCF, TWH, LCM and CCM files.

The BCM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BCM converter.
