Convert a file to CCM
To convert other file formats to the "Simulation Data File" file type, you need software like STAR-CCM+ or a similar tool.
About CCM files
The .CCM file extension is most frequently a STAR-CCM+ simulation or mesh file used in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). These highly technical files store 3D geometry, physics models, boundary conditions, and solver settings. The primary software to open these files is Siemens STAR-CCM+. Secondary uses include cutting contour data for EUROSYSTEMS CoCut, proprietary game engine fonts for PlayStation Portable and Electronic Arts games, and compressed game modification packages for the Close Combat series (which use standard ZIP compression).
The main disadvantage of .CCM simulation files is their proprietary nature and massive file size, often exceeding several gigabytes. Users without an expensive enterprise Siemens license cannot natively open or extract data from them. The format is closed, making third-party tool support almost non-existent for the raw simulation files.
If you need to share simulation data, the best target formats are neutral scientific standards like .CGNS for fluid dynamics, VTK for visualization, or STL and STEP for raw 3D mesh geometry. Note that internal physics parameters and proprietary solver settings will be lost during export. For Close Combat mods, the target is simply to extract the internal contents to standard game files.
Converting a .CCM simulation file is notoriously difficult. Because it is a closed, proprietary format, often only the original Siemens software can properly read or export the complex multiphysics data. Standard online converters fail because they lack the proprietary parsing engines required. However, you can use convert.guru as a pragmatic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as a ZIP archive for game mods - viewing or extraction may still be entirely possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CCM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CCM file to CBM, you can use STAR-CCM+ or similar software from the "Simulation Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert files to CCM, try STAR-CCM+ or another comparable tool in the "Simulation Data Storage" category.
The CCM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CCM converter.
