About CCM files

Handling .CCM files is a frequent source of confusion because the extension is shared by high-end engineering software and retro gaming communities. Primarily, a .CCM file is a simulation archive created by Simcenter STAR-CCM+ (formerly CD-adapco). These files contain massive amounts of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) data, including 3D mesh geometry, physics continua, and solution history. The real problem here is proprietary lock-in: these files can be gigabytes in size and are unreadable without a costly enterprise license from Siemens. Users often need to convert these to open formats like VTK or .ENSIGHT to visualize results in free tools like ParaView or Tecplot.
