About WFT files

The .wft file extension primarily acts as a 3D model container utilized by the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE). It is famous for storing highly detailed vehicle models and their distinct physical damage states for Grand Theft Auto IV. In enterprise and engineering environments, .wft also functions as a waveform data acquisition file generated by DASYLab, or a Workflow Process Definition file deployed by Oracle.

To view or manipulate these files, standard software is useless. GTA models require community-maintained reverse-engineering tools like ZModeler or OpenIV. Oracle files must be managed via Oracle Workflow Builder, and waveform data requires DASYLab.

The primary disadvantage of the .wft format is its heavily encrypted and proprietary nature. A GTA .wft file is a compiled binary that locks 3D geometry away from standard industry software like Blender or Maya. It lacks official documentation, meaning users are forced to rely on complex, outdated modding software to access their data. DASYLab and Oracle files similarly trap user data behind expensive enterprise software licenses.

Modders and 3D artists constantly need to convert .wft files to standard 3D formats like OBJ or FBX to edit meshes. For data files, users often seek conversions to open formats like CSV or XML to perform independent analysis. Be aware that converting GTA models to basic formats will strip the embedded RAGE physics and damage-node hierarchy.

Because .wft is a closed, proprietary format across all its variations, standard online converters inevitably fail to process it. Usually, only the original software can properly read or export the embedded data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your WFT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted WTD, WTF, RAR, Z3D, OFT, ZIP, DFF, PYD, TXD, WFP, YDD, XSB and YTD files.

The WFT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WFT converter.
