About WTF files
A .wtf file is predominantly a plain-text configuration file used by the World of Warcraft (WoW) game client. It stores vital user preferences, including graphics settings (CVars), UI layouts, macro definitions, account bindings, and realm lists. A secondary, less common use for the .wtf format is temperature recorder data generated by Carrier Transicold Wintrac hardware.
The main disadvantage of the .wtf format is its obscure extension. Operating systems like Windows and macOS do not natively recognize it, resulting in "Cannot open file" errors when users attempt to double-click it. Storing configurations or raw data in this proprietary-sounding extension severely limits out-of-the-box readability. Furthermore, a single syntax error inside a WoW .wtf file can corrupt your interface, forcing the game to delete it and wipe all custom settings.
To ensure your configurations or data logs are universally accessible, you must convert the file. For manual editing and archiving of game variables, convert to TXT. If you are handling Wintrac temperature logs, convert to CSV or XLSX for spreadsheet analysis. For sharing stable configuration backups, convert to PDF.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WTF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The WTF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WTF converter.
