The .TXD file is a RenderWare Texture Dictionary used extensively in classic 3D games, most famously the Grand Theft Auto series. The primary disadvantage of the .TXD format is its proprietary, legacy nature. It offers zero native compatibility with modern operating systems, web browsers, or standard image editors like Adobe Photoshop. The internal textures are often stored using lossy DXT1, DXT3, or DXT5 compression, which degrades quality to save VRAM. If you are not actively modding a vintage game, the file is essentially a locked black box.
