About USR files

The .USR extension is a polymorphic format used by distinct, incompatible systems - most notably Lowrance/Simrad marine electronics, Yamaha musical keyboards, and 4D database environments.

The Problem: Because the extension simply stands for "User," there is no standard structure. A .USR file from a fish finder contains waypoints and routes, while one from a Yamaha PSR keyboard contains registration banks. They are typically proprietary binary files, meaning they cannot be opened by double-clicking and result in garbled text if forced open in Notepad. This is a common problem when users attempt to share fishing spots between different GPS brands (e.g., Lowrance to Garmin) or analyze database contents outside the original software.

The Solution: Successful conversion requires identifying the source device:

Convert.Guru analyzes your USR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted URS, GPX, TXT, CSV, STY, FST, DXF, INI, ZIP, RPT, BIN and PKPASS files.

The USR Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our USR converter.
