About GPX files
The .GPX file extension usually represents a GPS Exchange Format file. It is an open, XML-based standard created by TopoGrafix to share GPS data like waypoints, routes, and tracks across different fitness devices and mapping software, such as Garmin Connect. A secondary use for .GPX is as a proprietary Guitar Pro 6 tablature document created by Arobas Music. The standard GPS .GPX format is extremely verbose. Because it is raw XML, files become bloated when logging long tracks with dense data points. Opening these files directly reveals walls of text instead of visual maps. They require specialized GIS software or fitness platforms to render visually. Alternatively, the Guitar Pro 6 .GPX format is a closed, proprietary binary format. It requires an expensive software license to open, and standard audio players cannot read it. Converting your GPS .GPX files to KML makes them compatible with Google Earth for easy 3D viewing. Converting them to CSV extracts the raw latitude, longitude, and elevation data for spreadsheet analysis in Microsoft Excel. If you have a music tablature file, converting it to PDF or standard MIDI removes the software lock-in. Guitar Pro .GPX files are especially difficult to convert because only the original software can properly parse and export the proprietary music data. Standard online converters often fail to process it. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your GPX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert GPX file to KML, FIT, CSV, KMZ, TCX, GEOJSON, SVG, JSON, MP3, WAV, AAC or FLAC, you can use Garmin Connect or similar software from the "GPS Route Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to GPX, try Garmin Connect or another comparable tool in the "GPS Route Data Storage" category.
The GPX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our GPX converter.
