Convert RPT to another file type
To convert your RPT file to another format, you need SAP Crystal Reports or other Data software.
Convert a file to RPT
To convert other file formats to the "Business Intelligence Report" file type, you need software like SAP Crystal Reports or a similar tool.
About RPT files
The .RPT file extension is most commonly associated with SAP Crystal Reports, a business intelligence tool used to design pixel-perfect reports. These files are not simple documents; they are complex binary containers that store the report definition (layout, fonts, graphics), database queries (SQL commands), and often the saved data itself.
Because the format is proprietary to SAP, you cannot open a standard Crystal Report .RPT file in Microsoft Word, Excel, or a web browser. This is a key problem for users who receive a report but lack the expensive Crystal Reports software or the specific Crystal Reports Viewer. Users are often forced to install heavy legacy drivers just to view a single page.
For most users, the best solution is converting the file to a universally accessible format. For sharing and printing, convert .RPT to PDF. If you need to analyze the underlying data, converting to XLSX (Excel) or CSV is ideal.
*Note: A minority of .RPT files (especially from banking systems like Punjab National Bank or Microsoft SQL Server) are simply plain text or HTML files renamed with an .rpt extension. These can be opened with Notepad++.*
Convert.Guru analyzes your RPT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RPT file to PDF, CSV, RDL, XPS, JPG, OXPS, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML or INI, you can use SAP Crystal Reports or similar software from the "Business Intelligence Reporting" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to RPT, try SAP Crystal Reports or another comparable tool in the "Business Intelligence Reporting" category.
The RPT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RPT converter.
