About STY files
The .STY file format is most commonly used as a Keyboard Accompaniment Style file by Yamaha and Korg. These files contain proprietary, multi-track MIDI data that instructs the arranger keyboard how to play auto-accompaniment rhythms, basslines, and chord backings. A secondary, but highly prevalent, use for .STY files is as a Style Document in LaTeX, storing custom macros and formatting parameters for typesetting technical documents. The primary disadvantage of keyboard .STY files is their hardware lock-in. While they are essentially standard MIDI files under the hood, they contain proprietary headers and CASM (Chord Assignation/Style Maker) sections that standard media players cannot read. You cannot simply play them on a PC without specialized software, and sharing them with musicians using different keyboard brands is nearly impossible without data loss. For editing and cross-platform playback, convert your keyboard .STY to standard MID.
