About FST files

The .FST extension represents a collision of three distinct technical worlds, creating significant compatibility challenges. Most commonly, it acts as a State File for FL Studio, storing channel or plugin settings (formerly FruityLoops). These proprietary files lock your sound design parameters into the Image-Line ecosystem, making them impossible to open in other DAWs like Logic Pro or Ableton Live without manual reconstruction.

Alternatively, in data science, .FST files serve as Fast Serialized Data for the R Language or Finite-State Transducers used by OpenFst. While the R format offers lightning-fast read/write speeds for large datasets (exceeding 100MB), its binary nature renders the data invisible to standard tools like Microsoft Excel or text editors. To regain access to your data, converting R-based FST files to CSV, JSON, or Apache Parquet is essential for interoperability. For OpenFst files, converting to Graphviz DOT or PDF allows researchers to visualize complex state machine diagrams.

Convert.Guru analyzes your FST file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted FXP, FLMPST, ZIP, FLP, VST, ADG, FSTDAT, FLMRACK, TXT, WAV, RAR, VST3 and DWP files.

The FST Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our FST converter.
