About SIB files

A .SIB file is a proprietary music notation score created by Avid Sibelius, one of the leading sheet music editors. It stores musical notes, lyrics, instrument setups, layout dimensions, and playback settings. A rare secondary use is as a binary software translation data file by TsiLang. The primary software to open these files is Avid Sibelius. For more background, see the Sibelius Wikipedia page. The .SIB format is heavily proprietary, closed-source, and relies on complex internal formatting. Files are notoriously difficult to open without an active, expensive Avid subscription. Backward compatibility is a known issue; newer files cannot be opened in older versions of Sibelius without manually exporting to a legacy version first. Furthermore, the format is entirely unsupported by web browsers and generic audio players. To share sheet music, users must convert .SIB to PDF for printing or viewing. For playback, exporting to MIDI or MP3 is essential. For collaborating with users of other notation software like Finale or MuseScore, exporting to MusicXML is the industry standard workaround. Because .SIB is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters usually fail to process it directly. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the complex layout data. Just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SIB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PDF, MUSICXML, ZIP, MID, MXL, MP3, XML, JPG, CDW, MIDI, ACSM, G3D and MUS files.

The SIB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SIB converter.
