About SIB files
A .SIB file is a music notation project created by Avid Sibelius, the industry-standard software for composing, arranging, and publishing sheet music. These files contain complex musical data, including notation symbols, layout formatting, MIDI playback instructions, and virtual instrument settings. While powerful for composers, the .SIB format is strictly proprietary, meaning it cannot be opened by standard text editors, media players, or web browsers. A significant issue for users is version compatibility; a file saved in a newer version of Sibelius often cannot be opened in older versions without prior export steps. Furthermore, accessing the content requires either the paid software, a limited free version (Sibelius First), or the discontinued Scorch browser plugin. To share scores with musicians who do not own Sibelius, or for archival purposes, users should convert .SIB files to PDF for universal viewing and printing. For transferring musical data to other notation software like Finale or Dorico, converting to MusicXML is essential. For audio previews, converting to MP3 or WAV is recommended, while MIDI is best for importing raw note data into DAWs like Logic Pro.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SIB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The SIB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SIB converter.
