About MID files
A .MID file contains Musical Instrument Digital Interface data. Unlike standard audio formats, it does not store actual sound waves. Instead, it stores a list of musical instructions, such as notes, timing, pitch, and velocity. Software synthesizers or hardware instruments read these instructions to generate sound. You can open and edit .MID files using digital audio workstations like Ableton Live or FL Studio. You can read more about the standard on Wikipedia. The biggest disadvantage of the .MID format is playback inconsistency. Because the file only contains instructions, it sounds completely different depending on the sound card or synthesizer used to play it. An orchestral track might sound realistic on a high-end studio computer but sound like a cheap toy on a smartphone. Furthermore, modern web browsers and mobile players do not natively support .MID playback without third-party plugins. To guarantee your music sounds exactly the same on every device, you must convert the .MID file into a standard audio format. For universal web use and sharing, convert to MP3. For high-fidelity archiving, convert to WAV or FLAC. For sheet music generation, convert it to MusicXML or PDF. Drag and drop your file to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.
