About SAI2 files
The .SAI2 file format is a proprietary document type created exclusively by PaintTool SAI Ver.2, a digital painting software for Windows. It stores raster graphics, multiple layers, blending modes, opacity settings, and brush metadata. Artists use this format as a working file while creating digital illustrations. The main disadvantage of the .SAI2 format is its severe lack of compatibility. Because it is a closed, proprietary format developed by SYSTEMAX, no other major image editors - like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP - can open it natively. The format is not supported by web browsers, macOS, or mobile devices. You are entirely locked into using the Windows-only PaintTool SAI 2 software, which requires a paid license. To share the artwork with clients or open it in other software, you must convert it. The best target formats for conversion are PSD (Photoshop Document) if you need to keep your layers intact, or PNG and JPG for flat, easily shareable web images. Converting .SAI2 files online is notoriously difficult because the format architecture is strictly closed and undocumented.
