About PSD files
The .PSD file is a proprietary layered image format created by Adobe for Adobe Photoshop. It stores multiple image layers, masks, text, alpha channels, and vector paths in a single file, making it the global industry standard for non-destructive digital art, retouching, and photo editing.
However, .PSD files have significant disadvantages for daily use. They are notoriously heavy, often exceeding hundreds of megabytes or even gigabytes. The format is tightly proprietary, requiring an expensive Adobe Creative Cloud subscription to fully open and edit without losing complex layer properties like Smart Objects. Furthermore, .PSD files are not supported by web browsers, email clients, or standard mobile image viewers. Sharing them directly with clients for visual review is highly impractical.
To solve this, you must convert your .PSD files to accessible formats. For web publishing and fast sharing, convert to WEBP or JPG (note that JPG drops all layers and transparency). If you need to preserve transparent backgrounds for logos or web assets, convert to PNG. For archiving or sharing fixed multi-page layouts with clients, convert to PDF. Drag and drop your .PSD file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing expensive software.

The PSD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PSD converter.
