Convert RTE to another file type
To convert RTE templates to another format, you need Autodesk Revit or other Cad software.
Convert a file to RTE
To convert other file formats to the "BIM Template / Navigation Route" file type, you need software like Autodesk Revit or a similar tool.
About RTE files
The .RTE file extension primarily serves as a Revit Project Template created by Autodesk Revit. It stores base project settings, default families, line weights, and views for Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows. Secondarily, .RTE files are used as GPS route or track files by navigation tools like AlpineQuest, TomTom, and SevenCs eGlobe.
The main disadvantage of the Revit .RTE format is its proprietary nature. It requires an expensive Autodesk subscription to open and edit natively. Files often exceed hundreds of megabytes, making them difficult to share. Furthermore, Revit files are strictly forward-compatible; you cannot open a 2024 .RTE file in a 2023 version of Revit.
For BIM users, the typical conversion target is an RVT (Revit Project) file, which happens natively when starting a new project in Revit. Users also export template contents to DWG, IFC, or PDF for external sharing. For GPS users, converting navigation .RTE files to standard GPX or KML formats is necessary for compatibility with fitness devices and mapping software.
Because the Revit .RTE file uses a proprietary Microsoft Compound binary structure, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original software can properly read or export the complex BIM data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, like an XML-based maritime route, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RTE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RTE file to RVT, DWG, RFA, PDF, ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ or LZMA, you can use Autodesk Revit or similar software from the "Project Template & Route Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert XXE, 7Z, Z, PAK, LHA, DEB, UUE, TAR, LZH, ZIP, PKG or RAR files to RTE, try Autodesk Revit or another comparable tool in the "Project Template & Route Data" category.
The RTE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RTE converter.
