About RTE files

Rich Text Format (RTF) is a file format developed by Microsoft Corporation in 1987 for exchanging text between different word processing applications. It is widely used for saving documents, and is supported by most word processors. RTF files are plain text files that contain formatting information, such as font size, typeface, and color. They can be opened and edited with any text editor.

RTF files can be converted to other formats, such as HTML, PDF, and DOCX. The Pandoc software is a free and open-source tool for converting RTF files to other formats. The LibreOffice suite of office applications also includes a tool for converting RTF files. Additionally, Microsoft Word and Apple Pages both have built-in tools for converting RTF files.

When converting RTF files, it is important to consider the formatting of the original file. Some formatting may be lost during the conversion process, and the output file may not look exactly like the original. Additionally, some formatting features may not be supported by the target file format, which can make the conversion process more difficult. Finally, some RTF files may contain embedded objects, such as images or charts, which may not be supported by the target file format.

Due to the challenges associated with converting RTF files, it is often easier to use an online service, such as Convert.Guru, to convert them. This free and easy-to-use website allows users to quickly and easily convert their RTF files to other formats, such as HTML, PDF, and DOCX. Additionally, Convert.Guru supports a wide range of other file formats, making it a great choice for all of your file conversion needs.

The RTE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began more than 25 years ago in California, when Tom Simondi published the most comprehensive database of file formats on his website. Before that, Tom had worked on Space Shuttle development at the Air Force Systems Command’s Space Division in Los Angeles. He is known as one of the top programmers of the late 1980s.

When Microsoft integrated Tom’s Filext database into Windows XP, it became the leading platform for analyzing and processing file types and formats.

Today, we use the latest technologies to analyze, process, and convert one of the world's largest collections of file formats. We are committed to developing the best RTE converter by continuously improving quality, usability, and reliability.
