The .DWFX format is intentionally restricted. It is a "baked" review format designed to let people see a CAD model without giving them the ability to edit the original source data. This means extracting the original parametric shapes, layers, or metadata is often impossible without the source DWG file. These files can become quite large, and they require specialized desktop software to open, as modern web browsers do not support them natively.
Users typically need to convert .DWFX to PDF for universal document sharing. Advanced users sometimes attempt extraction to DWG or DXF to recover some basic linework, but 3D models and layer structures are usually lost permanently during this process.
Converting .DWFX files is notoriously difficult because it relies on an XPS container structure and proprietary Autodesk rendering engines. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the 2D and 3D CAD data. Standard online converters fail because they cannot process this proprietary packaging.
