About PMDX files

The .PMDX file extension denotes a spreadsheet document created by SoftMaker PlanMaker, the spreadsheet application within the SoftMaker Office suite. Introduced with the 2012 version, this format utilizes a ZIP-compressed container holding XML files to store cell data, formulas, charts, and formatting, similar to the architecture of Microsoft's XLSX format.

The biggest obstacle for .PMDX files is their proprietary nature and lack of interoperability. Unlike standard formats, .PMDX files cannot be opened natively by Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or LibreOffice. This creates a significant workflow bottleneck: if you send a PlanMaker file to a client or colleague who relies on the Microsoft ecosystem, they will be unable to access the data without installing SoftMaker's software.
