About PCI files
A .pci file is primarily a Microscopy Image file associated with Image-Pro Plus by Media Cybernetics or Quartz Imaging Corporation. These files store highly detailed imaging data captured from digital microscopes. Alternatively, the .pci extension is used for Point Cloud Index files by Leica Cyclone, Processed Color Images by DxO PhotoLab, or system configuration files for fire alarm panels by Notifier by Honeywell.
Opening a .pci file without the original software is a major challenge. The formats are highly proprietary. For example, a microscopy .pci file requires expensive, specialized software like Image-Pro Plus to view or measure the data. They are not supported by standard web browsers, operating systems, or typical image viewers. This vendor lock-in restricts collaboration.
Because of these restrictions, users frequently need to convert .pci files to standard formats to share them with colleagues or clients. The best conversion targets for microscopy and processed images are TIFF (for lossless archiving) or JPG and PNG (for web sharing and presentations). Note that converting a .pci file to a standard image format will likely result in the loss of proprietary metadata, spatial calibration data, and measurement overlays.
Converting .pci files is notoriously difficult because they are closed, undocumented formats. Often, only the original authoring software can properly read or export the full dataset. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible using convert.guru. Even if standard conversion fails due to proprietary encryption, our tool can inspect the file, reveal internal text strings, and extract underlying embedded formats if supported.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PCI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PCI file to KCF, PCF, CI, UCI, DPM or NCI, you can use Image-Pro Plus or similar software from the "Microscopy Image File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert files to PCI, try Image-Pro Plus or another comparable tool in the "Microscopy Image File" category.
The PCI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PCI converter.
