About STS files

The .STS file format is a highly fragmented extension used by dozens of unrelated software applications. Most commonly, it functions as an Adobe RoboHelp or FrameMaker style sheet settings file, governing the visual layout of help documentation. In other contexts, it operates as a save state or vehicle data file for the Spintires and MudRunner video games, a PCB solder paste stencil in Autodesk Eagle, or a generalized XML status file used by various enterprise tools. Depending on its origin, an .STS file might be opened by Adobe RoboHelp, Autodesk Eagle, SCAD Office, or specific diagnostic tools like SCT Performance engine tuners. Because there is no universal standard for .STS files, opening them requires the exact software that created them. The primary disadvantage of the .STS format is its extreme ambiguity. Since a game save file and an enterprise structural analysis model share the exact same extension, the files are completely incompatible with each other. Furthermore, many of these are proprietary, closed binary formats. This locks your data into specific software ecosystems, often requiring expensive legacy software or paid subscriptions to access. They are not natively supported by standard web browsers or modern text editors unless they happen to be formatted as raw XML. Standard online converters frequently fail to process .STS files because they cannot guess the internal structure. However, Adobe RoboHelp .STS files are essentially renamed ZIP archives, and many status files are simply XML or TXT. Converting them to these standard formats allows you to extract the underlying text, configurations, or embedded assets. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert blindly. Usually, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like XML or ZIP, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your STS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PED, RWD and PVP files.
