Convert a file to SID
To convert other file formats to the "Wavelet-compressed Geospatial Image" file type, you need software like ArcGIS or a similar tool.
About SID files
The .SID file extension is primarily used for MrSID (Multi-resolution Seamless Image Database) files, a proprietary geospatial raster image format originally developed by LizardTech (now Extensis). These files store massive satellite or aerial photographs using highly efficient wavelet compression, allowing users to zoom in on specific regions without loading the entire multi-gigabyte file into memory. A secondary use of the .SID extension is for Commodore 64 music files, containing raw machine code intended for the Sound Interface Device chip. Finally, .SID files are created by Steam to store compressed game installation backups. You will likely need to convert these files because .SID is highly specialized and lacks broad native support. MrSID files require dedicated GIS software like ArcGIS or QGIS with specific plugins. The proprietary compression makes them impossible to open in standard web browsers or regular image editors like Adobe Photoshop. Commodore 64 .SID audio files require niche emulators to reproduce sound, making them useless on modern mobile devices. Drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software. For geospatial images, convert to .GeoTIFF or JP2 for better compatibility across GIS platforms, or JPG and WebP for quick web viewing (though spatial metadata will be lost). For Commodore audio files, convert to MP3 or WAV for universal playback.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your SID file.
If you want to convert SID file to EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP or MAP, you can use ArcGIS or similar software from the "Geospatial Raster Image Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to SID, try ArcGIS or another comparable tool in the "Geospatial Raster Image Storage" category.
The SID Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SID converter.
