To convert other file formats to the "Compressed Disk Image" file type, you need software like UFS Explorer or a similar tool.

About UCI files

A .uci file is a proprietary compressed disk image backup created by SysDevSoftware's UFS Explorer. This format stores an exact block-level copy of a hard drive, partition, or external storage device. Data recovery professionals and IT admins use it to preserve a failing disk's state before attempting aggressive data recovery or forensics.

The primary software for creating, mounting, and reading these files is UFS Explorer, specifically its recovery editions. Unlike standard ISO files, the .uci format natively supports error mapping for bad sectors and heavy data compression, making it highly specialized for handling failing media safely.

Because .uci is a closed, proprietary archive, you cannot simply mount it in Windows Explorer or macOS Finder. Users usually find themselves stuck when they receive a backup from a recovery lab but do not want to purchase an expensive software license just to browse their files. Furthermore, these files often exceed hundreds of gigabytes, making them nearly impossible to share or process using standard tools.

Typically, you do not "convert" a whole disk image. Instead, you extract its internal files to standard types like DOCX, JPG, or PDF, or export the entire raw image to a standard sector-by-sector IMG or RAW file. Converting to a generic raw image will lose the advanced compression and bad-sector metadata that the native container provides.

As a proprietary block-level container, this file format is notoriously difficult to process outside of its native ecosystem. Standard online converters fail completely.

Convert.Guru analyzes your UCI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted VY4, SNB, SMEM, MCI, DPM, CI, NCI and PCI files.

The UCI Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UCI converter.
