The .DPM file extension primarily represents an Allplan Drawing and Document file, developed by Nemetschek Allplan. It is used to store architectural CAD drawings, 3D models, and building information modeling (BIM) data. A secondary use for .DPM is as a Pro Tools Plugin file created by Digidesign (now Avid) to extend digital audio workstation capabilities.
Both variations of the .DPM format are highly proprietary. Allplan files require a costly commercial CAD license to open, view, or edit. They are not supported by standard web browsers or generic image viewers, making sharing structural blueprints with clients or contractors extremely frustrating. To share CAD drawings, users usually need to export the .DPM file to standard vector or document formats like PDF, DWG, or DXF directly within Allplan. Note that converting to PDF flattens 3D BIM data into 2D plans, resulting in a loss of parametric metadata. For the audio plugin variant, conversion is generally not applicable, as it contains compiled executable code.
Because .DPM is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters often fail to process it. Only the original software can properly read or export the geometric data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
