Extract text from DevExpress reports (PRNX)
To convert PRNX reports to another format, you need DevExpress XtraReports or other Page Layout software.
To convert other file formats to the "XtraReports Printing Document" file type, you need software like DevExpress XtraReports or a similar tool.
.PRNX files are printable report documents generated by DevExpress XtraReports. Developers use this framework within .NET applications to generate structured, data-driven reports like invoices, financial summaries, and data grids. Under the hood, a .PRNX file is simply a GZIP-compressed XML file that stores the exact visual layout, text, and graphics of a report on a page-by-page basis.
To open these files natively, you generally need a custom application built using the DevExpress Document Viewer component. There is no standard consumer software or built-in OS tool that can open them directly.
This creates a major problem for end-users. .PRNX is a highly proprietary format intended only for internal application use or specific enterprise environments. If a colleague or an automated billing system sends you a .PRNX file, you cannot view it on your mobile phone, open it in a standard web browser, or edit it in typical office suites. Trying to force it open in a text editor yields gibberish due to the GZIP compression.
To make this data accessible and useful, you must convert it. For exact visual fidelity, archiving, and sharing with clients, convert to PDF. If you need to edit the report's text or adjust the layout manually, convert to DOCX.
