Extract text from Navitel maps (NM2)

The .NM2 file is a proprietary vector map format specifically designed for Navitel Navigator, a popular GPS navigation software. These files contain highly compressed geographical data, including road networks, Points of Interest (POIs), routing graphs, and address databases, primarily used for offline navigation on devices running Android, iOS, or legacy Windows CE systems.
The main challenge with .NM2 files is their rigid exclusivity and obsolescence. It is a closed binary format that cannot be opened by standard GIS tools like QGIS or Google Earth. Furthermore, modern versions of Navitel Navigator (v9.x and later) have shifted to the NM7 format, rendering many older .NM2 maps incompatible or unstable, often resulting in indexing errors or missing routing data. Users are frequently stuck with legacy map files that they cannot edit, view on a PC, or port to other devices like Garmin units.
For practical use, the goal is usually to migrate away from this format or update it. If you need to view the map data on a computer or use it in a different GPS system, the ideal workflow is converting the underlying data to GPX or KML (Keyhole Markup Language). For archiving or visual reference without the GPS functionality, converting to PDF or PNG allows for easy viewing.
