A .PSI file is a highly fragmented file extension utilized by several unrelated software ecosystems. Its most common function is as a video surveillance index file generated by Arecont Vision NVR software to manage and track CCTV footage. Alternatively, it serves as an image frame preset in PhotoScape, a compressed server diagnostic package for Forguncy or Thermo Fisher, an MPEG Program Specific Information stream, or even XML-based molecular interaction data for the Proteomics Standards Initiative.
The main disadvantage of .PSI files is their deeply proprietary and context-dependent nature. If you possess an Arecont CCTV index or a PhotoScape frame, the file locks your data inside a specific, closed software environment. Standard file converters routinely fail to process .PSI files because they rely on recognizing a single, unified file structure. You cannot simply convert an index file to MP4 or a frame preset to JPG without the original media assets or the native software to interpret the instructions.
Because the .PSI extension is shared among SQLite databases, ZIP archives, and proprietary binary blobs, blind conversion is impossible. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, standard online tools will just give you an error.
