About NM files
The .nm file extension is primarily used as a NetMod VPN Configuration file for the NetMod Syna VPN client. These files contain specific connection settings, server addresses, proxies, and custom payloads used to bypass network restrictions or secure internet traffic. Other common uses include Game Navigation Mesh data used by Bethesda Game Studios or the Recast & Detour toolset to control NPC pathfinding, Need for Speed data files, Sony Net Yaroze object modules, and even astrophotography noise models. Because .nm files are often locked, encrypted, or highly proprietary, users frequently face limits. A locked NetMod configuration cannot be natively edited or exported to other VPN clients like OpenVPN. Similarly, game data files require specific unpacking tools and cannot be opened with standard text editors. Converting an .nm file is highly context-dependent. A NetMod file might ideally be converted to a human-readable TXT or JSON file to extract the payload, or translated into an OVPN (OpenVPN) or HC (HTTP Custom) profile. Game meshes might need conversion to OBJ or FBX for 3D editing. This format is notoriously difficult to process because the data structure is closed and specialized for a single app. Standard online converters fail because they lack the specific decryption keys or parsers for these engines.
Convert.Guru analyzes your NM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert NM file to EV, KM, OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D or STL, you can use NetMod Syna or similar software from the "VPN Configuration Profile" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to NM, try NetMod Syna or another comparable tool in the "VPN Configuration Profile" category.
The NM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NM converter.
