The .NM extension is a homonym used in two distinct technical ecosystems, creating frequent confusion. Primarily, it serves as a configuration profile for NetMod Syna, a VPN tunneling application popular for bypassing network restrictions. These files contain essential payload headers, SSH account details, and proxy settings. The friction arises because .NM files are often locked or obfuscated containers; while they hold standard networking info, they cannot be directly imported into open-source clients like OpenVPN or WireGuard.
