About MPA files
Users typically encounter the .MPA extension in two completely different contexts, often causing confusion.
1. MPEG Audio Stream (Most Common for Conversion): Most frequently, an .MPA file is a raw audio stream extracted from an MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 video. Technically known as MPEG-2 Audio Layer II (MP2), these files provide decent compression but suffer from severe compatibility issues. Unlike MP3, native .MPA files will not play on standard web browsers, iPhones, or Windows Media Player without third-party codecs. The "solution" is to convert these orphan audio streams to MP3 (for listening) or WAV (for editing) using a tool like convert.guru.
2. Beijer HMI Project File: In industrial automation, .MPA files are project source files for Beijer Electronics Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), managed by software like MAC Programmer or E-Designer. These are proprietary binary files containing panel configurations and logic. You cannot "convert" these to audio formats. If you need to view the logic or document the settings, your only practical option is to open them in the original Beijer software and export the data to PDF reports or migrate the project to a newer NEO or IX format.

The MPA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MPA converter.
