About MRK files
The .mrk extension is shared by three distinct formats, creating significant confusion for users.
DPOF Print Order (Most Common): Found on camera SD cards, this is a plain text file generated by the Digital Print Order Format standard. It simply contains instructions for a printer (e.g., "print image_01.jpg 3 times"). Crucial Fact: This file does not contain the actual photos. Users often try to convert it expecting to see images, but the solution is to open the accompanying JPG files instead. You can open the .mrk file with Microsoft Notepad to view the text instructions.
OptiTex Marker Layout: Used in the fashion and apparel industry by OptiTex CAD software. This file represents a "marker" - a nested layout of pattern pieces optimized to minimize fabric waste during cutting. These are proprietary CAD files. To share these designs with manufacturers who do not own expensive OptiTex licenses, users typically need to convert them to PDF (for visual plotting) or DXF / .AAMA (for CAD interoperability).
MARC Bibliographic Record: A text-based "mnemonic" representation of binary MRC files, used by libraries (e.g., Library of Congress) to store book data. Unlike the binary version, the .mrk format is human-readable and editable in tools like MarcEdit. Archivists often convert these to XML or CSV for data analysis.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MRK file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MRK file to MRC, TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD or LOCK, you can use OptiTex or similar software from the "Print Order / CAD Layout" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to MRK, try OptiTex or another comparable tool in the "Print Order / CAD Layout" category.
The MRK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MRK converter.
