About BDM files
The .BDM file extension primarily acts as a Blu-ray Movie Object or AVCHD Information File. It does not contain actual video or audio streams. Instead, it holds the menu structures, navigation commands, and metadata required by Blu-ray players to orchestrate M2TS video files. Secondly, .BDM files are also used as Bill of Materials index files by PTC Creo to list components within a 3D CAD assembly. To open AVCHD structures, users rely on media software like VLC media player or CyberLink PowerDVD. CAD users manage these files via PTC Creo. The main disadvantage of a .BDM file is that it is strictly a structural data file, making it useless outside its native folder hierarchy. Users often mistakenly try to convert .BDM to MP4 or MKV, assuming it is a standalone video file. Because it lacks actual media data, direct conversion to a video format is impossible. For the CAD variant, it is a proprietary index that cannot be easily read by competing 3D modeling tools without native plugins. If you want to extract video, you must locate the corresponding M2TS files in the STREAM folder to convert them to MP4. If dealing with a CAD list, target formats like CSV are preferred. This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is either proprietary CAD metadata or complex optical disc navigation data. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BDM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BDM file to MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, FLV, WEBM, MKV, M4V, 3GP, OGV, ASF or RM, you can use VLC media player or similar software from the "Disc Navigation or CAD Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MTS, MOV, RMVB, DIVX, RM, H264, TS, WMV, VOB, MP4, XVID or AVI files to BDM, try VLC media player or another comparable tool in the "Disc Navigation or CAD Data" category.
The BDM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BDM converter.
