About HPG files
The .HPG file extension represents a vector graphics file primarily associated with the Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language (HP-GL). These files function as a set of instructions for pen plotters, large-scale printers, and vinyl cutters, telling the hardware exactly where to draw lines or cut material. A significant portion of these files are generated by Lectra CAD/CAM systems for the fashion and apparel industry to define fabric cutting patterns.
While .HPG files offer precision for manufacturing, they present significant challenges for general office use. Because they are machine-instruction files rather than standard images, they cannot be opened by web browsers, Microsoft Word, or default photo viewers. Users often struggle to view the content without expensive CAD software like AutoCAD or CorelDRAW. To bridge this gap, the most practical solution is converting the file. For sharing and reviewing designs, convert to PDF. If you need to edit the vector paths in modern graphic design tools, SVG is the ideal target. For interoperability with other engineering software, converting to DXF preserves the vector coordinates.
Convert.Guru analyzes your HPG file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert HPG file to SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, JPG, CDR, WMF, EMF, SWF, FLA, XFL or SKETCH, you can use Lectra Modaris or similar software from the "CAD Plotting & Cutting" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert AFPUB, EPS, FIG, VSD, SKETCH, VDX, AFPHOTO, PDF, AFDESIGN, SVG, VSDX or AI files to HPG, try Lectra Modaris or another comparable tool in the "CAD Plotting & Cutting" category.
The HPG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our HPG converter.
