A .MOM file is primarily a mind map or diagram created by Mindomo. Under the hood, it is a compressed ZIP archive containing XML structures, images, and other assets used to render visual diagrams. A secondary, but highly common use (about 24%), is for Apple Core Data Managed Object Models. These are compiled from XCDATAMODEL files in Xcode and use a binary PLIST structure. Minor uses include Math-o-mir mathematical notepads and groff typesetting documents.
The Mindomo format is heavily proprietary. It locks users into a specific ecosystem, meaning you cannot natively open a .MOM file in standard web browsers or popular mind-mapping tools like XMind or MindManager. Users frequently face paywalls or account restrictions when sharing these files with clients who do not use Mindomo. Apple's Core Data files present a different limit: they are compiled binaries meant strictly for macOS/iOS applications and are completely unreadable by non-developers.
To share a Mindomo diagram, you should convert it to PDF for printing, or PNG and JPG for universal web viewing. If you need to migrate to another mind-mapping software, converting to OPML, MM (FreeMind), or TXT is the best practical approach, though complex visual styling will be lost.
