About MNG files
The .MNG file format stands for Multiple-image Network Graphics. It is an animated raster image format created by the PNG Development Group as an extension of the standard PNG format. You can open and edit these files using open-source graphics editors like GIMP or ImageMagick.
The primary disadvantage of the .MNG format is its complete lack of modern support. Because the format specification was overly complex and required heavy decoders, major web browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox dropped native support decades ago. This makes .MNG useless for modern web design, email, or simple sharing. To make these animations usable, you must convert them.
For web deployment with transparency, convert to WEBP or APNG. For universal video playback, convert to MP4. Just drag and drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser.
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your MNG file.
If you want to convert MNG file to MP4 or CUR, you can use GIMP or similar software from the "Animated Image Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RAW or AI files to MNG, try GIMP or another comparable tool in the "Animated Image Storage" category.
The MNG Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MNG converter.
