About MM files

The .mm file extension most commonly represents a Mind Map diagram created by FreeMind or its active successor, Freeplane. These files store brainstorming nodes, branches, icons, and formatting styles in a structured XML text format. A secondary, less common use of the extension is for Objective-C++ source code files used by developers in Xcode to mix C++ classes with Objective-C syntax.

For most users, the challenge with .mm files is accessibility. Because the format is designed for specific desktop Java applications, it cannot be opened natively by web browsers, mobile phones, or standard office software like Microsoft Word. Sharing a raw .mm file often forces the recipient to install legacy software just to view a simple diagram. To resolve this, users should convert .mm files to PDF for professional reports, PNG or JPEG for easy email sharing, or DOCX to extract the text outline for further editing.

Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your MM file.

Users also converted MUP, XMIND, MMAP, MMM, MD, DOCX, TXT, PDF, PRNX, EXE, ZIP, IS2 and FIG files.

The MM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MM converter.
