About MCD files

The .MCD file extension is highly fragmented. Most often, it represents an engineering calculation document created by PTC Mathcad, or a legacy CAD drawing from Nemetschek Vectorworks (formerly MiniCAD). Secondary uses include PlayStation memory card images for emulators and conceptual data models for SAP PowerDesigner. Working with .MCD files is frustrating. Mathcad and Vectorworks files are proprietary, closed binary formats. They require an expensive software subscription to open natively. You cannot view them in a standard web browser. Standard online converters usually fail because they lack the proprietary rendering engines needed to interpret the complex mathematical equations or 3D vector data. To share these files reliably, you must convert them. The best target format for a Mathcad document is .PDF. This preserves the visual layout of equations, but you will lose all live calculation logic. For Vectorworks drawings, converting to .DWG or .DXF is essential for compatibility with AutoCAD, while .PDF works best for client printing. If the file is a PlayStation memory card dump, users often convert it to .MCR or .GME for emulator compatibility. Because these formats are heavily locked down, direct online conversion is difficult. Emphasize that often only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Our tool can inspect the internal file architecture. If the .MCD is an unencrypted ZIP or XML - like those used by SAP PowerDesigner, JMerise, or Battlestate Games - our analysis detects the supported embedded format, meaning viewing or extracting the raw text and underlying assets may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MCD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XMCD, MCR, MCDX, GME, MCDF, SRM, BCD, ZIP, VWX, MDC, CDW, TXT and MCA files.

FAQ

If you want to convert MCD file to SRM, MCDX, LUX, MCR, DWG, PDF, XMCD, CD, DXF, DGN, RVT or RFA, you can use PTC Mathcad or similar software from the "Engineering Calculations & CAD Drawings" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The MCD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MCD converter.
