To convert other file formats to the "Engineering & CAD Files" file type, you need software like PTC Mathcad or a similar tool.

About MCD files

The .mcd file extension primarily represents an Engineering Calculation Document created by PTC Mathcad. Engineers use these files to structure and document complex mathematical formulas, variables, and calculations. Secondarily, .mcd files function as CAD drawings created by older versions of Vectorworks (formerly MiniCAD) to store 2D and 3D architectural models. Other niche uses include Sony PlayStation memory card images and SAP PowerDesigner conceptual data models.

These formats are strictly proprietary and heavily locked down. Mathcad files require expensive software licenses to open and do not render natively in standard web browsers. Sharing these files with clients or non-engineers is a major pain point, forcing users to convert .mcd into universal formats like PDF. Similarly, Vectorworks .mcd files must be translated to standard DWG or DXF files to achieve compatibility with universal CAD software.

Converting .mcd files is notoriously difficult. Because the internal data structures are closed and undocumented, standard online converters usually fail. Complex mathematical equations, parametric dependencies, and 3D vector geometries are frequently lost or corrupted outside their native environments. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data without critical data loss. If our analysis detects a supported underlying structure or embedded text, viewing or conversion to PDF or basic image formats may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MCD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XMCD, MCR, MCDX, GME, MCDF, SRM, BCD, ZIP, VWX, MDC, CDW, TXT and MCA files.

FAQ

If you want to convert MCD file to SRM, MCDX, LUX, MCR, DWG, PDF, XMCD, CD, DXF, DGN, RVT or RFA, you can use PTC Mathcad or similar software from the "Engineering Calculations & CAD Drawings" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to MCD, try PTC Mathcad or another comparable tool in the "Engineering Calculations & CAD Drawings" category.

The MCD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MCD converter.
