About MCDX files
MCDX files are engineering calculation worksheets created by PTC Mathcad Prime, the industry-standard software for solving, analyzing, and sharing vital engineering calculations. Internally, the file uses the Open XML architecture wrapped in a ZIP container to store live mathematical equations, plots, text, and images in a human-readable documentation format.
While .MCDX files are powerful for engineers, they present significant barriers for collaboration outside the PTC ecosystem. The format is strictly proprietary to Mathcad Prime; without a paid license or the free Express viewer (which has limitations), stakeholders cannot view the calculations or verify results. Additionally, .MCDX is not backward compatible with the legacy Mathcad 15 (.MCD) software, leading to frequent version conflict errors. Converting these files is often necessary to democratize the data.
For professional reporting and archiving, converting .MCDX to PDF is the best practice, ensuring the layout of equations and graphs remains fixed. If you need to extract numerical data for further analysis, converting result tables to XLSX (Excel) or CSV is recommended. For web-based documentation, transforming the worksheet into HTML allows for browser-based viewing without specialized plugins.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MCDX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MCDX file to PDF, XMCD, MCD, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG or CONF, you can use PTC Mathcad Prime or similar software from the "Engineering Calculation Worksheet" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to MCDX, try PTC Mathcad Prime or another comparable tool in the "Engineering Calculation Worksheet" category.
The MCDX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MCDX converter.
