Extract text from Layout files (LYT)
To convert LYT Layouts to another format, you need Proteus ARES or other Cad software.
To convert other file formats to the "Software Layout Design File" file type, you need software like Proteus ARES or a similar tool.
A .LYT file primarily serves as a PCB layout design file used by Labcenter Proteus ARES, though the extension is heavily fragmented and also widely denotes a 3D printer sliced layer file created by Mango 3D Lychee Slicer. Other specialized software, such as CADlink SignLab and data dictionary systems like CSPro, also rely on this extension to store spatial arrangements, interface designs, or print parameters.
The major disadvantage of the .LYT format is its extreme fragmentation and proprietary nature. Because "LYT" simply stands for "Layout," over a dozen unrelated applications use it. These files are typically closed-source binary or complex XML structures. Sharing them is frustrating because the recipient must own the exact same software - often requiring a costly commercial license - just to view the layout.
When dealing with these files, the best conversion targets depend entirely on the source. PCB layouts should be exported to standard .GERBER files for manufacturing or PDF for document review. 3D sliced files are often terminal and cannot be easily converted back to editable STL or OBJ formats. This file format is heavily fragmented and exceptionally difficult to open or convert natively. Often only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file and extract readable text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format (like a ZIP archive or generic XML application layout), viewing or conversion may still be possible.
