A .lay6 file stores a 2D printed circuit board (PCB) layout design. It contains precise vector data for copper traces, silk screens, solder masks, component footprints, and drill coordinates needed to manufacture electronics.
These files are generated exclusively by ABACOM Sprint-Layout 6.0, a popular tool among hobbyists and rapid prototyping engineers. However, the format is strictly proprietary. You cannot open a .lay6 file directly in mainstream Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software like KiCad, Altium Designer, or Autodesk EAGLE. Furthermore, almost no professional PCB fabrication houses (fabs) accept raw .lay6 files for manufacturing.
To actually produce the board, you must convert the .lay6 layout into industry-standard CAM formats like Gerber (RS-274X) for the layers and Excellon for the drill holes. For documentation, archiving, or sharing the schematic with non-engineers, convert it to PDF, SVG, or PNG.
