About LSS files
The .LSS file format is primarily used for two distinct purposes: exporting survey structures from LimeSurvey and saving speedrun split times in LiveSplit. Both of these primary variations are natively formatted in plain XML. Other less common uses include McCarthy Taylor LSS 3D terrain models, SYSLINUX bootloader splash screens, and SQLite game databases for mobile titles like Goddess of Victory: Nikke. The main disadvantage of an .LSS file is its strict software dependency. While the underlying code for surveys and timers is usually standard XML, opening it in a basic text editor presents a messy, unformatted wall of tags that is difficult for non-technical users to read. Sharing a survey template or a speedrun split record with someone who does not have the specific software installed is a frustrating experience. Furthermore, importing terrain models or proprietary game databases requires highly specific, often expensive, third-party software. To share or edit this data easily, you must convert it. For LimeSurvey and LiveSplit files, convert .LSS to XML, CSV, or TXT to parse the raw data into columns in spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel.
