About LYS files
The .LYS file is a proprietary 3D printing project format created by Lychee Slicer, a widely used slicing software developed by Mango 3D. Unlike universal geometry formats like STL or OBJ, a .LYS file captures the complete production environment: it stores the imported 3D models, their specific orientation on the build plate, editable support structures, and the intricate slicing parameters tailored for specific resin (SLA) or filament (FDM) printers.
While excellent for saving work-in-progress, the .LYS format creates significant workflow friction due to its proprietary nature. It acts as a "walled garden" - you cannot upload a .LYS file directly to a 3D printer, nor can you open it in competing slicers like Chitubox or PrusaSlicer. To manufacture the part, users are required to convert (slice) the file into a machine-readable format such as CTB, PHZ, or GCODE. Furthermore, to share the geometry with designers using different software or to archive the model without software lock-in, it is essential to convert the scene contents to standard STL or OBJ files.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LYS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert LYS file to STL, MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS, ALAC or APE, you can use Lychee Slicer or similar software from the "3D Printing Project Scene" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to LYS, try Lychee Slicer or another comparable tool in the "3D Printing Project Scene" category.
The LYS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LYS converter.
