The .TGA file extension stands for Truevision Graphics Adapter (often referred to as TARGA). It is a raster graphic image file developed by Truevision Inc. in 1984. Today, 3D animators and game developers still use it to store texture files because it natively supports alpha channels (transparency) and uses simple RLE (Run-Length Encoding) compression.
