About LIST files

The .LIST file extension is highly fragmented. In most cases, it stores mobile device data extraction logs created by Cellebrite UFED or Apple data transfers via PhoneTrans. These are often formatted internally as HTML. Another common use is in the Samsung Notes application, where .LIST files store internal metadata in a JSON structure. You might also encounter them as Debian APT software repository lists, Studio 3T MongoDB configuration files (which are actually ZIP archives), or After Effects preset packs for the Motion Bro plugin.

The biggest disadvantage of a .LIST file is its ambiguity. Because so many different applications use the exact same extension for entirely different data types (HTML, JSON, ZIP, or plain text), operating systems rarely know how to open them automatically. Double-clicking usually results in an error. Users are forced to guess the internal structure or use a hex editor to identify the file signature.

To make the data readable, you need to identify its true format and convert it. If it is a mobile data extraction, convert it to HTML or PDF to view it in a web browser. If it is Samsung Notes metadata, convert it to JSON or TXT for developer access. If it is a Studio 3T connection file, convert it to ZIP to extract the contents.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LIST file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PLIST, CONTACT, BK, INSV, ZIP, LRV, BIN, TXT, NFO and CFG files.

The LIST Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LIST converter.
