About JCD files
JCD is the proprietary 3D project format used by JewelCAD, a specialized computer-aided design software widely adopted in the jewelry industry for its non-parametric, free-form surface modeling capabilities. These files contain intricate 3D geometry of rings, settings, and gemstones, specifically optimized for manufacturing workflows like CNC machining and rapid prototyping.
Because the .jcd format is heavily optimized for JewelCAD's internal engine, it creates significant interoperability barriers. Users typically cannot open these files in standard 3D suites like Blender, Rhino 3D, or MatrixGold without prior conversion. Furthermore, sending a raw .jcd file to a client or a 3D printing service often results in delays, as they may lack the specific (and expensive) software license required to view it. To bridge this gap, users must convert .jcd files to STL for 3D printing and stereolithography, IGES for engineering precision in other CAD tools, or OBJ for rendering and visualization.
Convert.Guru analyzes your JCD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert JCD file to STL, 3DM, OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D or PLY, you can use JewelCAD or similar software from the "Jewelry 3D Modeling" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to JCD, try JewelCAD or another comparable tool in the "Jewelry 3D Modeling" category.
The JCD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our JCD converter.
