About INV files

The .INV file extension is a highly fragmented and overloaded format. Its primary and most data-heavy use is as a Dental 3D imaging case file generated by medical scanning equipment. However, it is also frequently used for system inventory data, electronic tax invoices, and Python documentation objects. Because the extension is shared across entirely different industries, opening an .INV file requires knowing its exact origin.

Depending on the source, you may need Anatomage InVivo or Instrumentarium Dental CliniView for 3D scans. IT administrators encounter .INV files via Microsoft Configuration Manager, where the files contain zlib-compressed system inventory data. Web developers use objects.inv files generated by the Sphinx documentation generator. Additionally, the extension is used for Italian and Vietnamese electronic tax invoices, as well as legacy invoice files from Corel WordPerfect.

The biggest disadvantage of the .INV format is its ambiguity. A 3D dental scan requires expensive, proprietary medical software, while an IT inventory file is useless unless decompressed and parsed. Legacy invoice formats are obsolete and cannot be opened by modern word processors, leaving critical financial data inaccessible. Electronic tax invoices are often locked to regional government portals, such as Italy's Agenzia delle Entrate.

To make this data usable, you must convert the file based on its actual content. For medical imaging, convert to DICOM or STL for compatibility with standard 3D viewers. For system inventory data, convert to CSV or XML to import the logs into a database. For legacy or electronic invoices, always convert to PDF or .PDF/A for reliable long-term archiving and printing. Drag and drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.

Convert.Guru analyzes your INV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The INV Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our INV converter.
