The .INSP file format is a proprietary 360-degree panoramic image container captured by cameras from Insta360 (like the X3, ONE X, and ONE R series). Essentially, it stores the raw dual-fisheye photos taken by the camera's front and back lenses before they are merged.
The main disadvantage of the .INSP format is severe ecosystem lock-in. Because the image data is unstitched, opening it in standard applications like Windows Photos or Apple Preview usually results in an error or displays two bizarre, distorted circles. To make the file usable, you are forced to download a massive desktop application like Insta360 Studio or rely on their bloated mobile app. Furthermore, popular platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Google Photos cannot natively read or upload this proprietary format.
To share, edit, or archive your 360-degree photos properly, you must convert the file. For web sharing and universal compatibility, convert your .INSP to an equirectangular JPG file. If you are uploading to modern websites, converting to WEBP will dramatically reduce file size.
