About DCH files
The .DCH file format is primarily a DipTrace Schematic Diagram used in Electronic Design Automation (EDA). Engineers use it to design electronic circuits, manage component libraries, and map wiring connections before manufacturing printed circuit boards. These files are typically created and opened natively using DipTrace by Novarm, though they are also associated with DesignSpark PCB. Working with .DCH files presents significant challenges for non-engineers. It is a proprietary CAD format that locks schematic data inside a specific software ecosystem. You cannot open it natively in web browsers, document viewers, or standard vector editors like Adobe Illustrator. To share designs with clients or manufacturers, you must convert the file. The best target formats are PDF for universal viewing and printing, or DXF and Gerber for mechanical integration and manufacturing. Be aware that exporting to these visual formats strips the underlying electrical intelligence, such as netlists and component metadata. This file format is difficult to open or convert online because it requires access to proprietary component libraries to correctly render symbols and traces. Standard converters fail because they cannot parse the closed architecture. Often, only the original EDA software can properly read or export the data. We inspect the file structure, and if our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
