About GP files

The .GP file extension primarily represents the modern project format used by Guitar Pro 7 and later versions. These files are sophisticated containers (often ZIP-compressed) holding musical tablature, standard notation, instrument tuning, and audio mixing data for playback. While invaluable for learning guitar, bass, and drums, the format poses significant accessibility challenges: it is proprietary and requires the paid Guitar Pro software or specific compatible readers to open. Musicians often face friction when sharing these files with bandmates who do not own the software or when trying to view scores on mobile devices without the dedicated app. To overcome these limitations, the most practical solution is converting the file. For printing or visual study, converting to PDF provides a universal layout. For audio playback in standard media players or DAWs, converting to MIDI or MP3 is essential. For editing in other notation software like Finale or Sibelius, MusicXML is the industry-standard exchange target. A secondary, less common use of the .GP extension is for Gnuplot scripts, which are text-based command files used to generate mathematical graphs; these should be converted to PNG or SVG for web use.

Convert.Guru analyzes your GP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted GP5, GPX, GP3, GP4, 3GP, PDF, MID, BINARYSTYLESHEET, JPG, ZIP, MP3, GPIF and GTP files.
